This month, Floyd County has announced that it will soon begin allowing individuals to use a credit card to post bail. Historically and typically, bail or bond that is set by a court can only be paid by cash or through a bail bondsman or a combination of both. An ordinance was approved by the Floyd County Commissioners allowing the use of credit cards to post bail. While this adds an additional option, individuals will still be able to use a bondsman or pay cash to make bail. There is little doubt that other counties will be watching Floyd County closely to see if this option may benefit their county and criminal justice systems.
